31 Days Of Horror - H.P. Lovecraft's Dunwich Horror And Other Stories

Also Known As:

  • H・P・ラヴクラフトの ダニッチ・ホラー (H.P. Lovecraft's Dunwich Horror)

Dunwich Horror And Other Stories is a direct-to-DVD collection that was only released in Japan.  It contains three H.P. Lovecraft stories adapted into stop motion short films.

"The Picture In The House" involves a man who takes shelter from the rain inside a house and finds an elderly man who is obsessed with the grotesque illustrations inside his books.  "The Dunwich Horror" tells of a mysterious boy who desires the Necronomicon.  "The Festival" is about a person who travels to a festival that's only held every one hundred years.

The entire affair is extremely short with all three stories only adding up to 45 minutes.  These aren't incredibly complex tales, but they're all fun and spooky at the same time.  I feel like the movie didn't overshoot the confines of its concept and ended up being much more atmospheric than I expected.  I think this would be great to show to a group as long as they don't mind foreign-language films.
